RV 101® – How to Cleaning & Protecting RV Roof – Dicor

Rubber roofs on RVs should be cleaned three to four times a year, and depending on where you park or store your RV it may need to be cleaned more often. Regardless of the type of rubber roof you have, never use any cleaners or conditioners that contain petroleum solvents, harsh abrasives or citrus ingredients. These types of cleaners can cause permanent damage to any rubber or vinyl surface. Most manufacturers of rubber roofs recommend you use a medium bristle brush and a non-abrasive cleaner. For light cleaning you can use warm water and a mild detergent like Dawn dishwashing liquid. Hard-to-clean areas like stubborn stains caused by leaves, sap, mold or mildew may require a second treatment. Use caution to prevent the cleaners from getting on the sides of the RV. ALWAYS rinse the sides, front and back of your RV before and after rinsing the roof to prevent streaking or damage to the finish on your RV. In this RV newbie how to video. Mark demonstrates how to clean and protect your RV roof. Cleaning, protecting and inspecting your RV roof can add years of trouble free service.

How to Maintain RV Roof Sealants

RV Rubber Roof Coating System by Dicor

Mark demonstrates how to coat an EPDM RV roof using Dicor’s EPDM roof acrylic coating system. This roof restoration system extends the life, and revives the new look of your RV rubber roof membrane by forming an excellent protective barrier with its elasticity and flexibility feature. It also provides superior resistance to harsh weather and UV light. If you have an aging EPDM (rubber) roof on your RV you won’t want to miss this video.

**NOTE READ THIS PRIOR TO COATING YOUR ROOF**: Some individuals have reported that frog tape did not adhere properly and that the activator causes the tape to lose adhesion. I applied the tape when the surface was completely dry and did not experience this, however I suggest you use whatever brand tape you are comfortable with using for this project.
